CBD for anxiety - helps to relax

Could CBD be the Perfect Solution to Anxiety Relief Without the Side Effects of Prescription Drugs?

The World Health Organisation has estimated that 1 in 13 people around the world is suffering with an anxiety disorder. Anyone who is living with the mental health disorder knows how debilitating the symptoms can be. Uncontrollable feelings of worry,  a racing heart, finding it hard to concentrate as well as sleep difficulties all make normal daily functioning really difficult.

It’s important to understand however that there is a difference between anxiety and an anxiety disorder.

CBD for Anxiety – Anxiety defined

Anxiety is your body’s instinctive response to stress and is a normal and healthy emotion. The nervous feeling we all get before a big event like a job interview is a natural reaction of the “fight or flight” response of our ancestors when they were faced with an immediate threat from a dangerous animal for example.

These days, there aren’t many dangerous animals lurking about ready to pounce on us. Our biggest stresses come from issues relating to work, money, health etc but our reaction is the same as it relates to our survival. The perceived danger causes a surge in adrenalin which helps us confront any possible risk to our security.

Anxiety Disorder

In contrast, an anxiety disorder tends to blow the perceived threat out of all proportion and the distress it causes can hold you back from living a normal life. The worry and fear can be overwhelming and really debilitating and cause symptoms such as:

  • Increased heart rate
  • Sweating
  • Trembling
  • Having trouble sleeping
  • Breathing rapidly (hyperventilating)
  • having trouble concentrating
  • Having a sense of impending panic

Some or all of these symptoms over time can unfortunately get worse if untreated and lead to other physical and emotional complications such as:

  • Depression
  • Insomnia
  • Social isolation
  • Suicide

Over the counter anti – anxiety medication like Xanax and Valium may offer a quick fix to these problems but they can be highly addictive.

CBD for Anxiety

These is where CBD could well be the perfect solution. Because from what we know, there does seem to be evidence that CBD has a calming effect on the central nervous system. Also, part of the appeal of CBD is that it doesn’t get you high. This is because it doesn’t contain THC, psychoactive component of the plant.

It would seem so that it could be a great alternative to more conventional complementary treatments typically used to treat anxiety like yoga, meditation, journaling, exercising etc. All of these coping mechanisms work really well for low level anxiety. But for some people they are not enough.

Japanese Research 2019

in 2019,  a study was conducted in Japan on  teenagers who had all been diagnosed with Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD).

Each of the teenagers was given 300 mgs of CBD oil or a placebo every day for four weeks.  At the end of their treatment the outcome was evaluated using a number of questionnaires.

The results found that CBD had significantly decreased their anxiety. This showed that CBD could be a useful option in treating social anxiety.

The study also found that the teenagers who were given CBD were more positive in their attitude to pursuing treatment. This showed that CBD could be beneficial in overcoming the stigma  normally preventing this happening.

So How Should I Take CBD for Anxiety?

CBD comes in many different forms and it’s up to each person to find out which one suits them best.

Here are three ways people are using CBD to help with their anxiety.

Edibles

CBD can be added to almost any food. One of the most popular and delicious ways to ingest it is through CBD gummy bears which come in a variety of flavours.

One of the advantages of taking gummy bears is that it is so inconspicuous. No one is going to give you funny looks or look at you twice for taking sweets in public the same way they might if you were taking out your oil dropper.

The only downside is that it can take an hour or more before you feel the effects as it has to pass through your system before it’s metabolised by your liver. This also means that only a limited amount makes it through to your system so it may not be strong enough to make an impact.

CBD Vaping Pens

One of the quickest ways to feel the effects of CBD is through vaping and it’s fast becoming one of the most popular ways of inhaling the oil. It enters the bloodstream through the lungs so is essentially like smoking.

As popular as vaping may be. there are concerns about its safety. And the jury is still out on its long term effects.

A serious lung condition known as VAPI or EVALI has lead to thousands of people being hospitalised and there have even been a number of reported deaths.

Most of the cases have been linked to the illegal market. CBD vapes bought in licensed cannabis shops are highly regulated so make sure you are buying from a reputable source if you decide to go down the vaping road.

CBD Tinctures

Tinctures and oils are taken through a dropper and are a popular way to use CBD. They are one of the most potent and purest ways to absorb CBD.

The most popular way to use the tincture is to place the liquid under the tongue using the dropper. This method works fast in getting the CBD into the body. Which leads to the question, how much CBD should I take?

WHAT IS CORRECT OR RECOMMENDED CBD DOSAGE ?

CBD for Anxiety - CBD recommended dosage chartMany variables will determine the correct CBD dosage for an individual – environment, genetics, diet, weight, metabolism and the purity of the product itself.
With all of these things working in tandem, creating a dosage that is an effective prescription for the general public is virtually impossible.
Importantly, only a government entity can legally call a recommendation a “recommended daily allowance”. That said this chart below is the nearest thing to recommended dosage levels outlined by CBD Experts.
The more effective strategy is, we believe, to begin with the minimum recommended dose on your product packaging and move up from there until you achieve the results that you desire. In summary, start small and gradually increase your dosage.
